چکیده

Kato and Chiesara (7) reported that many centrally active agents may produce tolerance to barbiturates as a result of induction of liver microsomal enzymes involved in drug metabolism Haloperidol and promethazine have also been reported to influence the enzyme activity (6). As there is lack of information concerning the effect of various psycho-active agents on metabolic mechanisms, it was thought of interest to study the influence of some of the commonly used agents on pantobarbitone anaesthetic time and if possible to attempt to correlate the data obtained with the results on enzyme activity reported in the literature.

Effects of prostaglandin E2, propranolol and nitroglycerine with halothane, pethidine or pentobarbitone anaesthesia on arrhythmias and other responses to ligation of a coronary artery in rats.

The effects of various cardiovascular drugs (prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), propranolol and nitroglycerine) and anaesthetic regimens (halothane, pethidine and pentobarbitone), upon the outcome of coronary artery ligation in acutely prepared rats were determined. Effects upon arrhythmias, blood pressure, heart rate, mortality, ECG and the size of the occluded zone were determined for each drug in the ...

Nociception after intraperitoneal injection of a sodium pentobarbitone formulation with and without lidocaine in rats quantified by expression of neuronal c-fos in the spinal cord Πa preliminary study

After a search on Medline, it appears that intraperitoneal injection of sodium pentobarbitone is often used for anaesthesia and euthanasia of rodents. In the present pilot study in rats, spinal nociception after intraperitoneal injection of sodium pentobarbitone, with and without lidocaine, was examined by estimation of the number of c-fos-expressing neurones in the spinal dorsal horn. One grou...

The effect of hypoxaemia on the cerebral blood flow of the dog under methoxyflurane anaesthesia.

THE EFFECT OF HYPOXAEMIA upon the cerebral blood flow (CBF) has been studied in anaesthetised animals, 1-:~ but only intravenous anaesthetic agents, usually pentobarbitone, have been investigated. No studies have been made of the effect of induced hypoxaemia upon Cur in animals under inhalational anaesthesia. The present study was undertaken to determine the effect of hypoxacmia upon CBF at two...

The effect of hypernatraemia on ketamine anaesthesia in male rats

We studied the effects of a single ketamine injection in an experimental model of chronic hypernatraemia in rats. Three groups, each of 20 male Wistar rats were chosen for the experiment; the control group was given water and the test groups were given 1% (group 1) and 2% (group 2) NaCl solutions for two weeks. All groups were fed with the same diet, containing about 0.5% salt. Other living con...

Macroautoradiographic study of the distribution and excretion of 14C-pentobarbitone in rats pretreated with phenobarbitone.

The distribution and excretion of pentobarbitone were studied, using macroautoradiography, in two groups of rats at times ranging from 1 min to 70 min after the i.v. injection of 100 muCi given as 30 mg/kg of 14C-pentobarbitone. In a control group, the carbon-14 concentration (concentration of pentobarbitone) in the brain remained always greater than that in heart blood (unchanged pentobarbiton...
